Jim Smith asked for a report on my eye. It doesn't appear to be getting any better. Yesterday and today have been especially bad. Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be having a bad effect on my guitar playing. I have learned Ragtime Annie and Soldier's Joy over the last month and can almost do Black Mountain Rag at Doc Watson speed. Guitar playing seems to be cumulative in that each song gets easier as the hands develop memory of moves. Today, my instructor told me that he spends a lot of time playing scales as fast as he can in order to increase his speed and expression. Now if I could only get my fingers to quit hurting so I could practice a few more hours each day. Monday, November 20, 2006
I see over at Skinnydan's that Congressman Rangel wants to reinstae the draft. My favorite quoteoncerning the draft comes from"Glory Road" by R.A. Heinlein. "The draft is like passengers on a boat surrounded by sharks who select some people to throw overboard to appease the sharks." In a volunteer force, some people jump in to save the others. While I agree that a draft would make it more difficult for a President to wage a war of choice, I do not think it would have made a bit of difference in the currrent one. Of course, you always have the Charlie Rangels who do not seem to believe anything is worth fighting for. |
