We have a good collection of birds around the house this year. I feared that the population would be down after the new subdivision went in and a lot of trees were cut. The most interesting development has been the arrival of a Bluebird pair. We have had a Bluebird house up for a few years but only one year of Bluebirds which were killed in a violent storm. Because if the subdivision, I had to move the house to the clothesline post and we have Bluebirds. It was amusing to watch a Chickadee fill the house with straw and then be chased off by the Bluebird male. The same thing happened the last time. I guess the Bluebird didn't see the need to work when he could get someone else to do the heavy lifting.
The Redheaded Woodpecker is back also. I thought that maybe his tree had been cut down since I hadn't seen him in a while, but he is back in all his glory. It's funny to have more birds than when we had the open space behind the house. I have to say that most of the Cardinals seem to have moved on. We had as many as ten pair in past years, but only one so far.
