This morning a friend told me his son-in-law has been killed in Iraq. I have several friends with children in Iraq and it was bound to happen sooner or later but it still hits you hard.

Like me, my friend is a retired Army officer with almost 30 years service. We understand the dangers involved in any military operation, but deaths of soldiers are never easy to take.

John's daughter is a company commander in Iraq and will be the escort for her husband's remains. The funeral is at West Point on Saturday.

Not much blogging lately. Still trying to recover from a virus that hit me before Christmas and work has been interfering with fun.

My brother had surgery last week to try to alleviate a seizure problem he has been having for several years. Amazingly, he had his head cut open on Friday and was released from the hospital on Sunday. We have been teasing him that he now is the only Anderson with proof that he has a brain even if part of it has been removed. So far, the only thing missing seems to be his daughter-in-law's name but he does know who she is. I'm sure he will get her name back.
