Spent most of Saturday with my brother and nephew who operate a small business. Neither spends a lot of time thinking about the world situation because they spend their days doing fairly hard manual tasks and dealing with their customers. My nephew told me he is really concerned about the potential for Iraq to spread smallpox or other diseases. His thinking is that with today's rapid transportation, smallpox would spread like the computer worm did last week, very rapidly and with devastating results. He doesn't see a good outcome for the current situation, but he thinks the best we can do is confront it now rather than later.

My nephew's opinion is based on his and his familiy's self interest. He believes that sooner or later there will be a biological attack on the US unless we stop it now. If we go to war, there will probably be an attack, but it will be less severe than if we wait until Saddam has greater capabilities. I think he is right.
