For several weeks, I have been waiting for one of my clients to panic over a deadline they have been ignoring and now it seems to be eminent... like tomorrow. This should be interesting since the deadline really is one and they have done essentially nothing to meet it. The deadline is not tomorrow but the panic probably is as they realize how much work has to be done to get to where they need to be in a couple of months.
Of such is a career built.

I now have a Doctor in the family. My daughter received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy yesterday. She has gone straight through since graduating HS in 1997 and has worked close to full time most of the time. I asked her what she planned to do with her weekends now that she has graduated and she said she didn't know but some rest looked good.
When she was in the 9th grade, she came home after the first semester with her class standing at number two in a class of close to 400. Her friend Melanie was number one. I asked her who would be the Valedictorian and she said either Melanie or her. "What about Brad?" I asked.
"Dad, he's a boy!" was her response. She was right. Melanie was Valedictorian and she was second. Brad was third.
I think she'll do well.

You may have heard about the child abuse case in Texas where twin brothers were given long sentences for beating a child who acted up in vacation bible school. My son was on the jury. He says it was the hardest thing he has ever had to do in his life. There is no doubt in his mind that the defendants are guilty since they confessed, but he is upset about statements made by memebers of the church where it happened and by the defense counsel that the jury was unfair in its sentence.
The facts are that two 22 year old men beat a 10 year old with a cane at least 1/2 inch in diameter striking at least 100 blows and sending the child to intensive care for five days. The child lost at least two pints of blood from internal bleeding and was bruised from the nape of his neck down.
The prosecution asked for 30 year sentences and the defense asked for probation. The sentences were 26 years for the beater and 14 for the one who held the child. My son was for the heavy sentences. He is disturbed by the comments being made about what good boys the convicts are and how they had never done anything like the assault before. The jury should have been merciful and given probation.
I told him to sleep well. The jury didn't put the boys in jail. Their criminal actions did.
