We’re off to Denver for our son’s wedding. My wife insists we are losing a son not gaining a daughter, but I think it is all in how you look at it. I prefer the more positive thought that we are gaining a daughter.

I do not know what to think about war with Iraq. Is it going to happen soon, or will it be later? Will it be a direct war or will we use surrogates? Clauswitz, the American Army’s God of War said that war is diplomacy conducted by other means and if you have the fortitude to plow through six thick volumes of obtuse writings, you find that he had a lot to say about various means to conduct wars. It seems to me that we sometimes get the Clauswitz statement reversed and want to think that diplomacy is another way to conduct war. Now before one of the three people who read this thing (The count includes me) decides that I am some kind of pinko, I am convinced that we will eventually fight Saddam. I just prefer that it be at the time and place of our choosing. I want that time and place to be chosen for military reasons, not for politically expediency.
